Hey, I would like to start by saying it is a real pleasure to have this
interview with you. So without any further or due let's get right to it.
When did you begin your modeling career?
Thank you guys for taking the time to feature me. Modelling kind of happened by accident for me. I came across a modelling competition in a Urban lifestyle magazine called 'Touch' Magazine which was looking for the face of their publication. I thought it would be an exciting opportunity so entered and ended up finishing in the top three. Whilst there, I caught up with Touch Magazine's then Fashion Editor Denise Brown who said she liked my look and would like me to model for her clothing line 'Don't Judge Me' Through working with her I got the opportunity to feature in a number of online and print publications recognised in the UK including 'The Voice Newspaper' Young Voices Magazine, Pride Magazine, New Nation and many many more. After this I entered a number of beauty pageants and ended up winning one called 'Miss Flavour' in 2008. Now I am signed to Pink'N'Black Entertainment who are my personal management and I have recently released my own personal website www.sashashanteluk.com which is the perfect outlet for all my talents.
What is your ethnic background?
Born and raised in London, UK but originally from Jamaica and Barbados.
What would the average person say about you?
The average person will say that I work hard, I play hard, I believe in others but more vitally I believe in myself.
How long have you been modeling?
I have been modelling since 2007. I stopped for a year in 2010 but was encouraged to come back into it in 2011 by my manager.
How did you feel being in front of the camera for the first time?
It was a mix of pure excitement and pure fear!! I didn't want to come across too stiff but I never knew at the time how to move my body so it was a little bit crazy. Luckily, the more you shoot, the more confident you become. Now doing a shoot, is second nature to me. I don't really have nerves at all. I just enjoy the process.
How did you feel walking into your photo shoot?
Proud. To think that I never ever took pictures before that point was a major eye opener for me. But when the camera stared flashing, I knew I was in my new comfort zone.
What's the best thing about being a model?
The process and the overall run up to the shoot. I love changing my looks, getting my hair styled, shopping for new outfits. Changing your look and working with new people is always the best thing about modelling overall.
What do you do differently to set yourself apart from other models?
I keep in shape. This is not a dig at anyone but I feel there are too many models who roll out of bed and do not work on their assets. They do not keep it toned and in place. I take it seriously. I make sure I work at it. Of course I slack like many people, but it's vital not to completely 100 percent rely on computer wizardry to make you look good. I also have other talents. I am a combination of brains and beauty. I model but I also have ever ventures because to be honest, I am not a one trick pony. I like to push myself and excel in other avenues.
Where do you hope your modeling will take you?
For me, it's all about branding. I want to make myself into a brand. I want posters (in the process) other merchandise. I want to model for lingerie companies because that is what I am best at! There are also so many magazines that I want to feature in and I will make it my goal to make this happen!!
Where can we find you on a typical weekend,if you aren't doing a photo shoot?
You can find me behind a computer working on my magazine http://www.in-spirelsmagazine.co.uk.
What do you feel is the most attractive part of your body?
My stomach and my backside!! I am slim but curvy at the same time!! Perfect combo!
If there was one part of your body you would like to improve what would it be?
Nothing. I like my body, flaws and all.
What is a wild fantasy of yours?
Having sex on a Ferris Wheel- this may not be that impossible though!!! lool Or sex in space!! that would be crazy!!!!!!!!!!!
What kind of man or woman are you attracted to?
I don't think I have a type. I do love black men though, in all their tones and contours. There are hot black men everywhere which makes it even more better!
When you travel. What's in your "must have" travel bag?
Hair bands, water, sweets, lipgloss and my blackberry. These are all a MUST!
If we were to turn on your cd player. Who's cd would we find in there?
Well at the moment you would find my Linkin Park CD 'A Thousand Suns' cause I love them!! Any other day you would find Chris Brown F.A.M.E.
What are some of you current projects?
I am working on my exclusive posters and PC desktop downloads, I am also working on a business venture with my mother which I can't go into much detail about. I am also working consistently on my online magazine In-spireLS and taking it to the next level. For modelling, it’s about getting as many features as possible, that is my goal.
What keeps you motivated?
Proving people wrong does. Recently, a number of events in my personal life have made me realise the real from the fake. I feel that I am underestimated by many. But, I believe that the underdog, always wins. I am no exception to this rule.
Do you have any role models?
Myself, my mother and any individual I have met overtime who have overcome some form of adversity to get closer to their goals.
What is a major pet-peeve of yours?
People who pick their nose whilst driving. For some reason I have been seeing that alot on my travels. Disgusting is the only word to describe it. As well as being completely hazardous.
If you could build your "perfect man" using celebrity males features. What would
he look like?
A cross between Shemar Moore, Will Smith and Columbus Short. Pure Heaven!
When your in the club. What is your choice of drink?
Southern Comfort and Lemonade. However, I am always the designated driver so I tend to after one of those reach for the Coca-Cola
What is a special talent that not too many people know about you?
I can act. Trained in it but my heart just wasn't in it. I also was a very fast runner and considered at one point being an athlete.
Before you started modeling. What were you doing?
I was focusing on being a Journalist but didn't want to write for others. Now I have my own magazine so don't have to.
What are some of the worst pick up lines you ever been hit with?
Have I met you somewhere before? The answer always tends to be no, you haven't!
If you had to stop modeling today. How would you want people to remember you by?
That I always had hot but classy images.
